I didn't know

What I didn’t know.

I thought I could stay safely in my head.

I thought I could leave my personal life at the door.

I thought I could focus on someone else’s emotional life.

And God laughed -

an open-mouth, full-belly exuberant

outpouring of mirth.

Instead, I dissolved into my chair.

I fought to keep tears from escaping my chest.

I beheld the turmoil in my own heart.

God’s re-formation of my life was just beginning.
